Places as non-places: Exploring Colombia’s banana production through
archival practices and narratives of displacement.
Research, on-going project.
2024
The research begins with banana consumption in Germany and traces the history of banana production in Colombia, focusing on the Magdalena region's monocultures. I highlight the 1928 massacre caused by United Fruit Company's takeover, showing how violence reshaped the landscape. This event, fictionalized in "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and documented in United Fruit Company's photos, is examined for its impact on memory and collective trauma.
